A little question of priorities.

One of the joys of my life is the very early hours of the morning. I get out of bed and enjoy the peace and the stillness. We all need some time of quiet and calm in our lives but the world we live in does not seem to believe this. For many the minute, they awake the noise of life begins.

Early morning television programmes support this notion that the day has to start with a bang. Presenters but on their smiley faces and laugh out loud often at very little.  I avoid it like I would avoid a virus.

Now, this is just me and I am not for one minute saying that everybody should follow the same pattern as I do.  I like to meditate do a little bit of gentle Tai Chi to get the mind and body off to a good start.

There are other things that other friends find a better way to begin the day. I have a friend who likes to start with the crossword, another who starts with some puzzles from the newspaper he gets delivered every morning.

So for today, I have a little teaser for you.

You are in a cabin and it is pitch black. You have a newspaper, an oil lamp, a candle, and wood in the fireplace.
The newspaper is an old one and will not give you any news you have not heard or read before.
The lamp has some oil in it possibly enough to give you light for the first two hours.
The candle is one of those that burn for ages and also helps to fill the air with a nice aroma.
The wood on the fire if it ignites will bring both a cheerful glow and heat.
You only have one match. So you have to think and think very carefully.
Which do you light first?
The newspaper? The oil lamp? Or do you light the candle? Or try to light the wood on fire?
Of course you will have reasoned out which one you think should be lit first. We might not even agree because we see things slightly differently.
It is worthwhile though remembering that much of what we hear and see is all smoking mirrors shouting at us from all corners often to distract us from the most important things.

Yes, that's right! You light he match first!!
Have a thoughtful and marvellous day.
