While out walking yesterday we noticed some little fir trees that had taken root. The thing was there were no fully grown fir trees anywhere near. The most obvious conclusion seemed to be that some human had put it there, possibly as a future tree to remind us of Christmas.
The trouble with this was that there were a great many of them all of the different sizes. The nearest fir trees were on the other side of the large expanse of water. had they come over the water as cones and been carried to various places by birds or squirrels.
This sounded very much like the way evolution worked. So my mind could not stop looking around for other examples of this being the case. Like the Fir trees, I could see a similar happening with holly bushes. Probably brought there by birds eating the berries and in the process spreading the seeds.
As I wandered onwards I began to think more about and more about all the arguments of the past about Darwin and the monkey. The well-known drawing of the silly looking Darwin looking every bit like a monkey.
I wondered what the monkeys thought of such a thing.
Three monkeys sat in a coconut tree
Discussing the things that are said to be.
Said one to another: "Now listen you two
There's a certain rumour, but it cannot be true'
That man descended from our noble race.
Why the very idea; it's a disgrace.
No monkey ever deserted his wife,
Starved her babies and ruined her life.
Nor did ever a mother-monkey
Leave her babies with others to bunk,
Or pass them on from one to another
'Till they scarcely knew who was their mother.
And another thing you'll never see
A monkey building a fence around a coconut tree,
And let the coconuts go to waste,
Forbidding all other monkeys to have a taste.
Why, if I build a fence around a coconut tree,
Starvation would cause me to distribute to you.
Here's another thing that a monkey won't do:
Go out at night and get on a stew;
Or use a gun, a club, or a knife
To take another monkey's life.
Yes, Man descended, the ornery cuss!
But Brother, he didn't descend from us."
Just a thought I hope not too controversial. Have a wonderful and thoughtful day.
