Grasp The Day.

The sketch on my blog post is something I am working on of a very dear friend who was a family man through and through. He loved his wife and children one hundred percent so it was a tragedy that he died so young when their lives had hardly really begun.

Now I do not want this to be a sad blog because Mark would never have had it that way.

But there is a lesson for us all.

Too often I have put off something that brings me great joy just because I did not give it a though and fit it into my schedule.

I wonder how many people on the Titanic passed up on dessert because they were thinking of the calorie damage? If you enjoy something then enjoy it and compensate in other ways.

I wonder how often in my life my children or friends dropped in to say something and sat in silence realising my mind was elsewhere?

I cannot count how often I have promised to have a meeting with somebody to catch up and for one thing and another it just never happened. Something else came along.

We cram so much into our lives that we tend to schedule our headaches. We live on a sparse diet of promises that we make to ourselves, that we will do when the conditions are perfect!

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of "I'm going to," "I plan on," and "Someday, when things are settled down a bit."

I had a friend who kept an open mind on new ideas. His enthusiasm for life was contagious. You would talk with him  for five minutes, and you're ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Rollerblades and skip the lift  for a bungee cord.

There are things I love that I often deprive myself of  because  I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process.

The other day, I indulged myself  If I had been hit by a bus on the way home, I would have died happy.

Now... go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to do... not something on your ‘SHOULD DO’ list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting?

Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night? Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask "How are you?" Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head?

Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say "Hi"?

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift... Thrown away... Life is not a race. Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.

Have a marvellous day.
